It’s a crazy time right now with the COVID-19 and being quarantined. We are continuing to pray for all the events that are getting canceled or moved to different dates. THIS IS NOT AN EASY TIME FOR ANYONE. Luckily, I feel like people are extending SO MUCH GRACE and gathering together to help each other out.
As I sit at home, I have the opportunity to chat about one of my amazing couples, Stephen and Paula. Their love runs long and deep and you can tell from the engagement session. Stephen is soft spoken, introverted and makes calculated risks. Paula, on the other hand, definitely keeps the party alive and adds some spunk to the relationship. They are a PERFECT opposites attract scenario and I can’t wait to capture their big day.
Ok, I’m going to stop so you can read their love story below.
“We met through mutual friends almost 10 years ago. We first met when we were fishing with friends at the local marina and he helped me catch a fish! After that we only saw each other at different gatherings of mutual friends. It wasn’t until 4 years ago that Stephen came to Iowa City for a “boys weekend” basketball game with friends that I fell in love with him. I was in school at the University and met all the boys at a bar. I told one of our mutual friends that I could really see myself with Stephen and that he should be my “wing man” and set us up.
Needless to say, that mutual friend never even mentioned me to him. A few months later, Stephen moved into an apartment with another mutual friend. It was at their housewarming party that Stephen and I caught up and got to know one another. In the weeks following the party, I kept finding reasons to go to their apartment. Each time I went to their apartment I fell more in love with Stephen and kept finding more reasons to go back.
We started dating a few weeks later and the rest is history. In the last year we have bought a house, a truck, and an adorable puppy Archie together. In our spare time we love hanging with family and friends. We love to travel and get away from Dubuque as much as possible! I was raised on the Mississippi and Stephen has fallen in love with boating as much as my entire family. You can find us on my parents boat just about every weekend during the summer!
As for our engagement, it is basically a fairytale! Stephen LOVES Billy Joel, so for Christmas this year I decided to check something off his bucket list and surprised him with a trip for us and another couple to go to New York City to see Billy Joel at his home venue, Madison Square Garden. Little did I know that Stephen had a plan of his own. We were touring through Central Park when Stephen proposed next to the famous sailboat bridge (also my favorite place in New York). There was even a random saxophone player playing “my favorite things”! It was perfect!!
I was so happy and surprised, I could not get any words out!”
Don’t worry guys, she said YES!
